Bahia is a site of resistance, collective action, joy, trauma, and futurism. It is a place that has seen the ending of worlds over and over again, and has created with bravery, imagination, wisdom and experience beautiful new ones.

Our journey begins in Bahia, Salvador.

On this page, we will introduce you to some of the people, places, stories and blueprints in liberation that we encountered whilst there.

Why Bahia?

Bahia has been the site of African resistance for hundreds of years. With an African descent population 80% in the capital, Salvador, the culture, food, histories, and activism permeate.

Bahia is also the site of immeasurable trauma inflicted upon the bodies and spirits of black people. In Brazil, Indigenous and African bodies and the sites they occupy have faced violent endings over and over again. What these communities have done and continue to do with those endings is nothing short of amazing.

In Bahia, the intentional and relentless spiritual, spatial and physical genocide of African and Indigenous bodies continues; as does the collective resistance.
